A Surprise Bday Present!

So, a few weeks ago, my friends husband emailed me and asked if I would agree to be flown out to Southern California to be my friends surprise Bday present. Um, how could I say no to that? I couldn't!!

A little background: Monique is a friend of mine from the mission. We were never companions, but lived in the same apartment for 7 months. It was my first 7 months of the mission field and her last 7.  We had a great time together. When we were both home from the mission, we became travel buddies. We vactioned to Europe together for a month, went on a Mexican Riviera cruise, went to Cali, etc. We are great traveling companions. Monique moved down to Cali for her job and ended up marrying her boss, Pat who has 3 kids from a previous marriage. Monique and Pat have 2 of their own now and also have a foster daughter. So, Monique is a busy Mom and Pat wanted to do something special for her Bday. What a nice husband! So, Pat flew me down Thursday night. Monique and I spent Friday at Disneyland, and then Saturday sleeping in, shopping and a movie. Sunday we spent at the beach mostly and then I flew home that night. We had a great time and ate like we were missionaries again. We got kinda sick Saturday night! :) But all in all, it was a great trip and so fun to spend time with Mo! Here are some pics!

First of all--we spent the night at the Hilton by Disneyland on Thursday. We walk in...and there were hundreds of people in the lobby. Many of them very strange. We asked the man at the desk what was going on. He informed us it was the Blizz-con convention. Gamers. World of Warcraft. Need I say more. These pics might.

                                                                Really.....really???

Anywho, i only took one photo of us at Disneyland. It is the first time I have been during Halloween. So much fun! It was pretty packed, though.

Here are our cupcakes after we stood in line and ordered 3 each. That's right--3. And then we went to the gelato shop next door. We were so sick that night because we had only had sweet food and nothing real to eat that day because we were so full after. So, we laid in our beds like a bunch of slugs and talked about how we were both craving some real food at about midnight. Mexican food. Too bad we couldn't get out of bed!

Sunday at Newport Beach

We ate at this cute little restaurant at a beach called Crystal Cove I believe.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip and so much fun to spend time with Monique! I miss her so much! Happy Bday Mo. I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. And thanks to Pat for making it happen!
