BIBBITY BOBBITY BACON!!!

This Sunday at our family dinner the topic of bacon was brought up. If you know our family that probably won't surprise you. We talked of all the weird ways people eat bacon, dipped in chocolate, on top of doughnuts, etc. I (Amy) personally think both sound delightful but other members of my family did not agree. So when Sarah brought up the fact that someone at her work had made a delicious chocolate bacon cake and that she had the recipe and wanted to try it I was ready and able to help make it (and eat it.) Sadly we were unable to make it because the recipe called for 8 inch round cake pans that neither of us had. But don't worry we did not give up there. Instead we found another cake done by Martha Stewart...
Maple layer cake. Now Sarah's family recently discovered a doughnut from beyond glazed called the maple bacon doughnut that is apparently divine so we thought why not throw some bacon on top of that?! And so our journey began.
Pouring maple syrup into the mixing bowl. One valuable lesson we learned while making this cake is that maple syrup is expensive and it takes a lot to make this cake :\
Sifting flour :)
Whitnee joined us a little later which was lovely because we haven't been able to see her much lately with all her wedding plans.

Sarah mixing. She's really good.

Mmmm!

A couple hours later and vuala!

All in all the cake was delicious. We all commented that it tasted like breakfast and that the only thing that would make it better would be to put more bacon in the middle. Since Whit came over we (Whit and I) decided to practice her hair for the wedding (don't ask) while the cake was baking so we missed the making of the frosting which took 4 sticks of butter. That's right 4! Apparently it was quite dramatic. Whitnee and I heard a lot of yelling coming from the kitchen and were glad and sad at the same time that we missed out on the action. Lol. I would like to give a shout out to Sarah's mom Valois who we would not have been able to make the cake without. Also to Maria and John who showed their support. Stay tuned for more baking adventures :)

Fashion Friday---"You can never have too many cardigans."

I (Erin) get teased a lot at work for the amount of cardigans I own and wear often. My co-worker Kelsee cut a little ad out of a magazine once for me that says "You can never have too many cardigans." So true! A few months ago Kelsee asked me to count how many I actually owned and i think it was upwards of 26. I know, sounds ridiculous. And since then I have purchased a few more. I pretty much have one or more in every color. But the cardigan is so versatile. So many uses. It is perfect to throw over a dress to add a little color or to wear over something sleeveless. It can dress up anything you are wearing or simply give it a new bold look. There are so many different types of cardigans ranging in color, length and style. You also have the assymetrical, the ruffled and the shawl cardigan. Olive green, magenta, grey, and crimson are apparently the big colors of the season. This season the "boyfriend" or longer cardigan is in. The great thing about the longer cardingan is that you can also dress it up with a belt over the cardigan. Here are some favorite looks right now:

So many cardigans, so little time! And I'm so happy that it is fall because that means I will be wearing them even more.
Many of the cardigans posted here are from Old Navy and Down East Outfitters! Enjoy!

OUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR!

So halfway through writing my new blog post Erin my lovely sister texts me and tells me to check out her new blog post and what do you know we had posted basically the same thing pics and all! We are so alike it frightens me at times! Anyway to add to what Erin said I also am in love with the fall and my favorite part about the fall is Utah football. Below is a highlight reel of the Utes 2008 13-0 perfect season to get all you fellow Ute fans pumped up. Hopefully this year we can pull it off again :)

In other exciting news Erin and I received our pre-ordered Mockingjay books last Tuesday August 24th. We are both so excited and are loving it so far. I know I've said it in a previous posts but if you haven't read the Hunger Games series it is a must! Such good books!

Erin thoroughly enjoying her copy of Mockingjay. Lol!

Fall and Football----These are a few of my favorite things!

So excited that September is finally here! This summer has really left a lot to be desired and I (Erin) am glad it is basically over. Although I do love having a nice tan, laying by the pool, summer nights, camping and BBQ's-- there are many things about summer that i do not love. Actually, there is just one, but it effects so many things--the heat. I hate the heat unless I can dip myself in a body of water nearby. I hate being hot. I hate sleeping hot, I hate trying to work when I'm hot, I hate sweating, and I hate planning outdoor activities around the heat. I hate that I have to run really early in the morning or really late at night. Same with hiking or any outdoor activity where being in water is not involved. Basically what I am saying is that summer is not really my favorite season. And although this summer has been fairly mild temperature-wise, it has been a fairly crappy summer. I will not go into all the summer happenings and really I have so many blessings and don't really need to complain. It has just been one of those BLAH summers. Especially the month of August.
Anyway, we won't go into that!

Fall is upon us and I love everything about fall except for the fact that it is always so short. I love the crispness in the air, the changing of the leaves, all the fall holidays, and most of all.......FOOTBALL!
I love football. And especially UTAH football. Tomorrow starts off the 2010 season, so I am attaching the schedule. I also have tickets to the Notre Dame game in South Bend this November. Fall is already looking so much better than summer. Go UTES!
